Dress your best to attract prosperity with feng shui

Belinda Mendoza, founder of Design for Energy, shares her best tips on how feng shui can help you dress your best and bring prosperity into your life. This workshop was part of our Professional Women’s Group where working women meet monthly to discuss a topic that enhances a skill.

Belinda graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin before she went to work as a medical social worker, pharmaceutical rep and former Executive Director of the Hispanic Chamber in Memphis, Tennessee. She is now a trained feng shui consultant, teacher and speaker with 23 years experience.

Feng shui (translates to wind and water) represents the art of harmonious placement and involves working with energy “chi” using principles to easily increase prosperity, health and love. Chi flows through everything, it’s the matter around us and it’s able to be directed depending on the placement of items and the use of color.

Here are some feng shui techniques to increase wealth:

  • Get rid of clutter and things you don’t love. Your inbox and front porch too!

  • Fix broken things including cracked walls.

  • Clean out your car so you don’t transport negative energy during commutes.

  • Clean out dust and dirty from your home or office.

  • Improve dim lighting with non-florescent alternatives.

Follow these three easy feng shui steps to attract a job, new career or money:

  • Start with a positive intention.

  • Set up your space by cleaning out your closet and makeup area, replacing old or worn out clothes including those that no longer fit.

  • Take action! Even if you’re on a budget, invest in a piece of high quality jewelry, accessories or clothes when you can. Even if it’s just one staple piece. Designer handbags, silk, cashmere are all great options! Wear makeup to complete your look and dress with confidence as IF… as if you already have the job you are pursuing.

Not sure what color to wear? Find your Kua number, a number that’s associated with a color for your life area:

  • Take your birthdate. We’ll use this as an example: 1956.

  • Add the last two numbers together. If they add up to more than 1 digit, add those together. So, 5 + 6 = 11.

  • Add those two digits together. 1 + 1 = 2.

  • Add 5 to the single digit. If it’s two digits, add those two numbers together to get down to a single digit before adding 5.

  • This person’s Kua (for someone born in 1956) is 7 which is Metal.

  • Metal colors are golds, silvers, pearls, metallics, creams and whites.

Once you have your Kua number, you now have your element color:

  • 1-Water: blues and blacks

  • 2-Earth: gold, oranges, terracotta, dark reds, browns, and dark yellows

  • 3-Wood: greens

  • 4-Wood: greens

  • 5-Earth: golds, browns, brick red, burnt orange, dark yellows, terracotta, and taupe

  • 6-Metal: silver, bronze, gold, metallics, creams, and whites

  • 7-Metal: silver, bronze, gold, metallics, creams, and whites

  • 8-Metal: golds, dark yellows, browns, taupe, burnt orange, brick red, and terracotta

  • 9-Earth: golds, dark yellows, browns, taupe, burnt orange, brick red, and terracotta

  • 10-Fire: bright reds, oranges, bright yellows, fuchsia pink, and bright purple

Here are some associations based on your element:

  • Wood is associated with growth, revitalization, renewal, health, and vitality.

  • Fire is associated with passion, energy, excitement, anger, aggression, and joy.

  • Earth is associated with stability, grounding, nourishment, growth, energy, and strength.

  • Metal is associated with clarity, precision, introspection, self-reflection, organization, structure, and productivity.

  • Water is associated with flow, flexibility, purity, and cleansing.

Here are some other lucky career colors!

  • Wear black to enhance your career.

  • Wear red for fame and recognition.

  • Wear blue to increase wealth.

  • Wear green to attract new opportunities.

  • Wear gold, silver, pearls, and jade jewelry to attract wealth.

Don’t forget self care is essential to feeling your best. Do what feels right to you whether that be eating well, exercising, getting enough sleep, taking a soothing bath using calming salts, practicing gratitude, or saying positive affirmations like this daily:

I am qualified, competent, confident, and successful.
