October calendars for Neighborhood Services Unit are ready!
Please come by the Neighborhood Centers and get your FREE flu shot! Blackland Neighborhood Center’s flu clinic is 10/2 from 9am-12pm.
Austin Public Health’s next car seat event will be at South Austin Neighborhood Center on Friday 10/17. Schedule opens on Monday 10/6 8am. Montopolis Neighborhood Center is offering car seats by appointments.
NSU is part of the HHS Texas Community Partner Program to assist clients in form filling. Please call a Neighborhood Center closest to you.

New Workforce Resource Downtown
Central Presbyterian Church will be opening every Tuesday morning from 9-11 a.m. for unhoused neighbors who need workforce readiness, employment connection, or training.
CPC’s goal is to provide some one on one support for folks and walk beside them as they get back on the path to employment. They’re hoping that tailoring this to individuals and being mindful of the unique challenges of getting back to work while being unhoused will help some folks downtown.

Addressing our children’s behaviors can be challenging, especially when we don’t know where to begin. The research-informed concepts in this training will help increase your knowledge of brain development, how trauma can shape us, and how to best support and respond to our children’s behaviors.
By the end of this training, participants will:

The City of Austin’s 50+ Community Job Fair
The City of Austin’s 50+ Community Job Fair for individuals over 50 years old will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the City of Austin Permitting and Development Center, 6310 Wilhelmina Delco Drive, Austin, TX 78752. The opening ceremony will start at 10:00 a.m. to welcome employers and job seekers.
This job fair will provide individuals with multiple opportunities to meet face-to-face with representatives from public agencies, private employers, temporary staffing agencies, and resource providers committed to hiring and assisting individuals from all backgrounds, including seniors (50+), individuals with a past criminal conviction, veterans, and people with disabilities. All are welcome!
The event is free and open to the public.

Round Rock Arts Festival
Celebrate on October 3-4-5, 2025
Round Rock Arts Fest Hours:

Round Rock Arts Fest is our annual celebration of creativity in all of its forms, with live performances, food and drink, vendors of all kinds, 8 foot sidewalk chalk murals being created before your eyes, visual artists, interactive art and music experiences, and more! Some of that “and more” includes a fun Oktoberfest with Bluebonnet Beer Company! This three day event is for families, residents, and visitors to Round Rock, and admission is free! Round Rock Arts Fest takes place at Centennial Plaza, in Downtown Round Rock, and is hosted by the City of Round Rock Arts and Culture.
State of Manufacturing Expo & Conference
Join Combined Arms at ARMA on Oct. 1 & 2, Day 2 for the Manufacturing Employment Pathways at the Kalahari Resorts in Round Rock. This event and job fair is open to the public with a focus on creating career opportunities for transitioning service members, spouses, and veterans.
The two-day event, sponsored by PNC, will feature an expo providing an opportunity for manufacturers and suppliers to network, create connections, showcase, and learn about the latest technologies, innovations, products, and services in Central Texas.
In addition, the conference will bring together an all-star lineup of panels and presentations of industry thought leaders to explore the pressing issues facing Central Texas manufacturers with a special industry focus on aerospace and space.
More than 100 employers will be at this timely event, with markers on the booths of companies that focus on hiring veterans. The free event will include organizations serving the MilVet community including the Texas Veterans Network powered by Combined Arms, Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Veterans Commission, NextOp, and Forward March Inc
Women in Manufacturing networking brunch
A dedicated workforce development section is designed to spark innovation and collaboration around talent development in Central Texas manufacturing.
These workforce micro-sessions will bring together industry leaders, educational partners from K–12 through college, and workforce specialists to share best practices, explore emerging solutions, and connect employers with resources to attract, train, and retain top talent
Dedicated focus on transitioning active duty service members, spouses, and veterans to introduce them to career pathways in advanced manufacturing. Markers on booths of companies that hire veterans.

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the French Legation State Historic Site is partnering with local bakery, Joe's Bakery + Coffee, to explore the history and connection of pan dulce and East Austin.
Find pink cake, conchas and other sweet bread favorites while enjoying an archival sound installation of Joe's Bakery founder Joe Avila speaking about Mexican American baking traditions.
Free with museum admission and while supplies last during regular French Legation public hours (11:00 a.m. entry to last admission at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; grounds open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).

Virtual Online Suicide Prevention Observance Sept. 26th starting at 10 a.m.
This is a two-part event that features a virtual self-paced 22K from September 1-22nd. Participants are encouraged to participate in any physical activity and to forward screenshots, small videos and or photos to sharron.stewart@tvc.texas.gov by COB 9-22-2025 so that they can be included in a video that will be shown at the Observance on 9-26-2025. All participants will be entered into a drawing for one of several $50 gift cards.
The virtual Suicide Prevention and Observance on 9-26-2025 will feature Veterans discussing behavioral health strategies and victories.

Foundation Communities - Prosper Tax Help
IRS-certified tax preparers provide free tax filing to thousands of community members each year, helping them get the maximum tax refund. We also help file prior year tax returns, respond to IRS letters, and complete ITIN applications.
Prosper Tax Help will be open from until October 14th, before we pause to prepare for the 2026 tax season. You can find our IRS-certified tax preparers at one of our two Prosper Centers at the following times:
